Google App Password Setup

A secure authentication method for connecting your Gmail account with third-party applications while maintaining account security

Enable 2-Step Verification

  1. Go to your Google Account settings
  2. Navigate to the Security section in the left sidebar
  3. Under "Signing in to Google", select 2-Step Verification
  4. Click Get Started and follow the on-screen instructions
  5. Verify your identity using your phone number or authenticator app
  6. Complete the setup process
Note: 2-Step Verification must be enabled for at least 24 hours before you can generate app passwords.

Generate Your App Password

  1. Return to the Security section in your Google Account
  2. Under "Signing in to Google", select App Passwords
  3. If prompted, sign in again to verify your identity
  4. From the dropdown menus, select:
    • Mail for the application type
    • Other (Custom Name) for the device
  5. Enter a descriptive name (e.g., "Work Email Client" or "Mobile App")
  6. Click Generate to create your unique 16-digit password
  7. Copy this password immediately (you won't see it again)
Tip: Each application should have its own unique app password. If you change devices, generate a new one.
